As
already mentioned before, Pepper is our first Australian Shepherd. We bought
her in May 2001
from her breeder Angela Kleinhans (most successful
breeder for conformation dogs) and we never regretted this – just to
the contrary. I, Carola, was a little melancholy as Pepper truly is Dieter’s
dog – she is his shadow all the time. It is not the case that she does
not love me, no, but this is incomparable with the love she feels for Dieter
(cry!).
The sweet little well-read puppy (she loved literature – German or
English was not important to her) is meanwhile fully grown to a beautiful
bitch that only brings joy and happiness to our life. She is a very friendly
dog, regardless of what kind – human being or animal, was easily trainable;
she is never in a bad mood and would also never start a fight with others.
Other dogs trying to stir things up do not have a chance with Pepper – she
will just stay as friendly as she always is and normally nothing bad will
happen. This does not mean that she would not defend herself in case of necessity,
but in most cases no fights will happen due to Pepper’s special way
and balanced nature.
It is most important for Pepper to always be with us – although this
is true for all Aussies I know. She loves playing ball, playing with her
buddies, joining us for bicycle rides, obedience tasks, to accompany us when
we go horse riding and, of course, herding sheep – she is not so much
interested in cattle – that gives her the creeps.
Pepper is the supremely good boss of the pack. Okay, I must admit that in
reality, our tomcat, Mr. Willy, is the uncrowned leader, but luckily the
dogs do not know about it!
Pepper and I gave it a try at our trial here in Wendenborstel. She loves to herd and enjoys it a lot (unfortunately she shows her joy in barking all the time!). Anyway, we made it and received a qualifying score for our STD sheep title.
